This blog is me journaling for me about the act of building a business.
I see no reason why these thoughts can’t be shared with the world, so here you go.

Building Is Hard
When I decided to quit a job that took 7 years of school to secure, most people didn’t understand (and that’s okay).
Here we are almost 5 years after “taking the leap” and what I’m building has grown enough for people to get it (because the world can see it). With that being said, this project has never been about what the world sees. Deep down inside, the act of building something has been a personal challenge in pursuit of growth and impact (and therefore, excellence).
Building Project Endure provides me a vehicle to pursue excellence because it gives me a vehicle that requires active engagement in a worthwhile endeavor that aligns with the values/goals that I hold close.
In short, building a business has been so beautiful, rewarding and positive.
However, at the exact same time, it’s challenging, imperfect and exhausting.
It’s riddled with rejection, obstacles, disappointments, setbacks, obstacles, etc.
That’s because when you seek to create order in a world full of chaos, there’s an invisible uphill battle that needs to be fought; an undercurrent of disorder that shakes the base of whatever it is that’s being erected (it’s unraveling).
Excellence is an act of rebellion against what’s normal, convenient, easiest and comfortable.
Building is the pursuit of excellence.

“Living life as an artist is a practice.
You are either engaging in the practice or you’re not.
We tend to think of the artist’s work as the output.
The real work of the artist is a way of being in the world.”
― Rick Rubin
To build anything meaningful, we must also be building ourselves.
The building of this business has helped me grow in ways that I never thought possible (listen here).
I believe that humans are made to create (build) and that requires putting aside short term distractions in order to choose, plant and nurture seeds that have a long time horizon, In a world full of things to consume, we must rebel against what’s easiest and choose to create (excellence).
So building is hard but the alternative (not building) is worse.
Plus, everything we want is on the other side of hard.
And, hard things can be fun things 🙂

I hope that these simple thoughts were of some value to you and if not, I hope this quote is…
“All that matters is that you are making something you love, to the best of your ability, here and now.”
