This blog is a short one (and an important one).
I’ve been having a lot of conversations with clients around GOALS and wanted to share some thoughts that might be applicable to you too. Underneath the surface, the theme is about taking imperfect action and that’s what these raw thoughts are….

It’s About Becoming
While I believe that goals are great for setting DIRECTION, I’m also a fan of embracing the process while making an effort to be (somewhat) detached from outcomes. With that being said, I don’t chase goals.
I’m in pursuit of a FEELING and that feeling is ALIGNMENT.
To be more specific, I want to feel that ACTIONS are aligned with what I care most about, what I believe to be true and who I want to become. Just like gravity will bring everything back down to earth, my values, principles and habits will keep me grounded on a path of alignment. That’s how I’m playing the game.
It’s about who you become, not the outcome.
Here’s a great book on embracing the process.
Question: what do you want to feel this year?
One more interesting note….
The word “passion” comes from the Latin word passio, which means “to suffer” or “to endure.” With this in mind, I’ve come to the conclusion that having passion is an active decision that we make. It’s commitment to a meaningful pursuit.
You will not stumble across passion.
It’s less of something you feel.
It’s more of something you choose.
Passion is active.
It’s something you nurture.
It’s devotion.
Question: what things in this world are you willing to suffer for?

I hope that these simple thoughts were of some value to you and if not, I hope this quote is…
“Freedom is not achieved by satisfying desire, but by eliminating it. Assure yourself of this by expending as much effort on these new ambitions as you did on those elusive goals. Work day and night to obtain a liberated frame of mind. Instead of a rich old man, cultivate the company of a philosopher. Be seen hanging around his door for a change. There’s no shame in the association, and you won’t go away unedified or empty-handed, provided you go with the right attitude. Try, at least – There in no shame in making an honest effort.”
