Life can be a lot and this short blog is for everyone feeling overwhelmed.

You don’t need to figure it out right now.

For some reason, most of us feel pressure to  have all the answers. We’re led to believe that it’s normal to have a clear vision of what we want life to look like and a defined set of steps that will get us there.

The truth is: that’s not normal… in fact, it’s far from it.

The work that I do has afforded me the privilege of talking with people about some of the deep (sometimes dark) things that we tend to hide from the outside world. From thousands of conversations, I’ve come to realize that it’s common to have no idea what we’re doing, to be unsure of where we’re going and to be overwhelmed with the process. Experiencing overwhelm seems to be the rule, not the exception (you’re not alone).

It’s okay not to be okay, but you don’t have to stay there.

The good news: we don’t need to have it all figured out. I would argue that we can all still live meaningful lives taking one step at a time into an uncertain tomorrow. That’s because the most important things in life don’t involve achievement, accolade or what other people think. Sometimes the best thing that you can do is the next right thing. Put one foot in front of the other and let each step reveal the next and everything else fall into place.

While it might be comforting to know that we’re not alone, it might not change the circumstances. Understand what you can control and give your best effort. Surrender what you can’t control and reach out for help. There’s strength on the other side of this struggle and everything is happening for a purpose even if you can’t see it yet.

“If you’re overwhelmed, lost, or like you life is out of control, do whatever you can that matters to someone else or ever did to you… it might not help, but it certainly won’t hurt.”
