This short blog is a passing thought that I wanted to get down on paper.
I’d love to hear what you think!

What If It’s Just Art
I have the privilege of having dozens of deep, intentional conversations each week – through coaching, podcasting and other general connections. Through these ongoing dialogues I’ve come to believe that none of us ever “figure it out.” We are all doing our best to navigate this complex, confusing and challenging world one new moment at a time. While it’s important to have a sense of direction and purpose, I can’t help but shake the idea that the specifics don’t matter. In other words, maybe it doesn’t matter if we are a doctor or a barista – we can still all leave a unique impact on this world through how we live – the what is just a vehicle. What if our life is like a piece of art – each mistake, movement and moment just an imperfect brushstroke on the canvas of our time? In the end, what if that piece of art gets hung up on the wall of time left to impact everyone who is yet to come? What if life is not about getting “somewhere” but creating “something” of meaning?

I hope this made you think and that these words maybe even took some pressure of the need to achieve.
“Art is never finished, only abandoned.”

Keep making art.

Loved this. Was just sipping a cappuccino in this coffee place in PR, and I read that line of yours saying “it’s doesn’t matter if you’re a doc or a barista”… and it made me chuckle because I read your blog at the right place and time. Precisely now I am awaiting an answer regarding a potential job placement after clinicals (PTs) for next year… I’m a 3rd year SPT. I believe I subscribed to your blog posts way back and got caught up until now. So happy to say that your writing posts are just right, God-sent. Love that quote (Da Vinci’s)… Because I am learning that PT school has been the vehicle to show me that life is that “art”, not a mold, that I am CHOSEN to LIVE and LEAVE His footprint and will for my life… which is to create something meaningful through which He can be glorified in the smiles or tears of those I interact with. I have realized that PT is less about skill set (hear me out here ), and more about grit and humanism. You’re, correct, we never stop “figuring it out”. In fact, God says “I’ll show you as you go, that’s the adventure part, how exciting”! That integrity, that gift development of going into the depths of human connection to enhance QOL, optimizing function, bring hope to the impotent.. regardless of whack insurance-driven healthcare or the challenges of entrepreneurship (though promising) …That philosophy becomes your way of life, regardless of the setting you’re practicing in or the place you’re living in, or the people you’re talking to in the marketplace with. Loved it, J! God bless you and your family.
This is so beautiful – I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your reading and how glad I am that you’ve been leaning in to the art that life is! I’m wishing you the best of luck with everything, Daljenny I appreciate you!
